97% of S.H.E. College Fund students graduate.

This documented success is due to the resilience and courage of our students, the steadfast commitment of our Primary Funders, and the ongoing support from our staff on academic, psychological and practical levels. Despite the odds stacked against them, S.H.E. Fund students stay the course – despite the ever-present threat of harmful traditional practices such as female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM/C) and early/forced/child marriage (EFCM), unrelenting family pressure to contribute financially, and prevailing norms to demonstrate womanhood through childbearing. In January 2023, the S.H.E. College Fund roster included 34 continuing students, 9 incoming students, and 21 graduates. These young women, with steadfast support from their sponsors, have gone on to earn certificates, diplomas or degrees from accredited public and private institutions in Kenya.

65% have earned the US equivalent of an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

Our students aspire to acquire educational qualifications and intern experiences that will lead to future employment. Recent graduates have qualified in Community Health, Education, Medical Technology, Business, Tourism, and Conflict Resolution. Those who begin with certificate programs often seek to advance into diploma or degree programs. Many continue their training by earning a professional accreditation, such as CPA.

70% of graduates are now working.

And research shows that educating a woman has enormous benefits to herself, her children, her family and her community. When educated women get jobs and control their own assets, lasting change is set in motion. This is a testament to the enduring impact of The S.H.E. College Fund.

Join us in supporting these resilient and courageous women who dare to create change in their world.

Become a Primary Funder

As a Primary Funder, your annual contribution of $3,900 for a duration of two to four years or for ‘as long as it takes’ enables the college education of a young woman, encompassing all her educational expenses and associated management costs. The S.H.E. College Fund provides constant support to the students, organizing in-person and virtual skills-building workshops, tutoring and mentoring, and academic and career counseling. The S.H.E. College Fund handles all financial transactions.

Primary Funders have the option to be in communication with the student, through emails, WhatsApp and/or Zoom. In addition, you receive triennial progress reports from the student. The S.H.E. College Fund fosters and supports your connection with the student.

What improves happiness the most is giving in a way that you know your donation is making a specific impact. This is the beauty of the model of giving created by the S.H.E. Fund: establishing relationships between the students and their donors rather than just having everyone give to a pool of funds. It has meant so much to me to see how Susan is growing and thriving with the support of the S.H.E. Fund!
